Principal's 2020 Back-to-School Message

Falcon Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I apologize that this letter is later in reaching you than in past years; however, this year has been like none I have ever experienced in public education.  I want you to know how excited we at CCMS are to have your students back with us and how great it is to see them every day.

This school year has seen some substantial changes to your students' schedules, most notably that they will have only three classes per day but twice per day.  This rotation will allow us to continue to provide all of our core instruction with two life skills options for your students.  Life skills classes will be rotating upon the quarter this school year. In the past, students have had multiple choices. They will get to see all life skills teachers, but this year, they will see them each quarter.

Facemasks this school year are the new fashion trend, and I want to commend students and parents for wearing them so well.  One thing we must ask is that students provide and bring face masks every day to school. We have a limited supply of masks that we can give out on occasion if a student forgets. We do not have enough to make this a practice.

Your students have already completed the beginning of the year STAR assessment to help us gauge ability in both reading and math.  We will use this data to inform your student's instruction this year and provide any needed interventions.  We will give two other assessments to your students, the BIMAS and the Youth Truth survey.  Both surveys will provide us with information about students' well-being that we can use to provide support through counseling services if needed.

We are working on creative ways to hold parent-teacher conferences this year. When we settle on what we can do and what we feel will be the most impactful, I will send this information to you all.

Parents will begin to see off-campus passes go home next week. When they have earned the privilege of doing so, these allow our students to eat lunch off-campus at either Dairy Queen, Sonic, or Wendys, depending on their grade level.  Students will need to pay for the food and must return to campus by the end of their lunch period.  Parent permission is required for this privilege, and students will check-in and out at the front office.

Thank you to all of our parents for a great start to this school year; we all appreciate the extra work you have put in to ensure your students are healthy and safe.
